Trumbull Notes 4-18-16

April 18, 2016

Our Trum-Freshman have won the Freshman Olympics!!!!!!!!!!!

On a beautiful Saturday our Trumbull Freshman won the Freshman Olympics!  Congratulations!!  This, according to reports I have been given, is just the second time this has happened since 1932.  You freshman were awesome.  We’re the smallest college so it’s always a bigger challenge for us to win any competition than other colleges.  But, of course, we have the best people and you came through big time.

Special thanks go to the leaders of this event Yan Oczkowicz (who also receives the best dressed award and the “I can easily put up with water being dumped on my head in a dance competition” award), Josh Swerdlow (who also receives the “I can convince many of my peers to jump in and participate with enthusiasm” award) and Tasha Boyer who provided all-round support.  I also thank our Trumbull Bull (whose identity remains a mystery to me – but he or she was there too – front and center from start with Yan, Josh and Tasha).

Not all our Trum-Frosh’s efforts (and there were many) have been documented on video but the dance competition has been recorded.  I urge anyone who has not seen the clip to seek it out.

There will be special cakes this week in our dining hall to celebrate.  We’re ordering them today.  (They will probably appear on Wednesday evening.)  (I’ll send out a notice.)  We’ll play that dance competition video on our big screen too if possible.

Freshman:  This video will re-appear at your graduation celebrations to be sure!

Thanks to the TCC for hosting the Junior-Senior bon fire Friday evening event in our courtyard.

In this regard, special thanks go to Mercedes Martinez and to Al Nurani for their help.

Tonight!  Monday, April 18, 2016, Junior Reception in the House from 9 p.m. until 10 p.m.

All Trumbull Juniors are invited to join in a junior reception in the Trumbull House beginning at 9 p.m.  There will be lots of food.  Come join us.

Tonight!  Immediately following the Junior Reception there will be another No-break-quiet study break in the House from 10 p.m. until midnight.

All Trumbullians are invited to join in this event.  At 10 all food from the Junior reception moves to the pantry next to the kitchen, the dining room table is cleared and card tables appear.  All must be quiet but everyone is invited to come, get some food and coffee or soft drinks and to study (or just snack and leave) until midnight.

There was lots of food last time and it lasted for most of the evening but I would

Note that last week, a few people arrived at 11:30 p.m. and, although there was some food left, most was gone.

Friday, April 29, Pamplona

Don’t forget that our TCC sponsored spring festival, Pamplona is occurring this  Friday in the Courtyard, please join in.  Thanks to the entire TCC who has been organizing this.

Early morning study breaks in the FARR room on the weekends will continue throughout the semester.  It will be opened by 8 a.m. and will stay open until 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Coffee, tea and whatever I can think of and gather together food-wise will appear.

I noted after the first time that some students had helped me out and cleaned up their dishes afterwards.  Others have made new pots of coffee with the filters and coffee I left out for the break I thank those anonymous early morning helpful scholars.

Get sleep, take a walk, eat well, take care of yourselves as we enter the final stretch of the semester. If you can’t do a perfect job on everything, well, that’s truly O.K.  No one is perfect.  Do your best and stay balanced.
