Dean’s Notes 2-23-2021

February 23, 2021

TRUMBULL COLLEGE: February 23, 2021

Hope you all enjoyed the 3-day weekend. As much as I miss having the 2-week Spring Recess, I can’t help but think about last year’s Spring Recess, which was absolutely wild and the opposite of a break! ;) So far, I’m liking these break days! It was nice to have a day without Zoom meetings. I caught up on some tasks and took a walk in the rain – it was a nice day. The fact that another break day is two weeks away is kind of nice! Yes, I am a glass half-full kind of person.

Below, you’ll find our updated info about the Academic Strategies Program (it changes every week!). There are a few helpful workshops later today – check them out! I want to specifically draw your attention to their mentors – I strongly encourage you to consider signing up for an individual consultation. I have heard glowing recommendations (you know who you are) about this program!
I really hope you all had a relaxing/restful day yesterday – wishing you all the best with your week!

European Studies Council - Undergraduate Fellows Networks
Two networks are being launched for students interested in working in Latin American & Iberian Studies and on European Studies. These networks are being launched under the auspices of the Council on Latin American & Iberian Studies and the European Studies Council, respectively. These exciting new networks offer students interested in related topics a close-knit and interdisciplinary community, the chance to work with graduate students and prominent scholars in the field, and funding opportunities for research and conferences. Interested undergraduates should complete brief self-descriptions here (for Latin American & Iberian Studies) and here (for European Studies). Students can join both!

As part of these network launches, the two Councils are hosting a career conversations series featuring alumni. The first one takes place February 10, featuring Yale College alumna Ruth Álvarez-DeGolia speaking about her experience building up a non-profit in Guatemala. The second is on February 11, with MA alum Mato Meyer, who will talk about his career in international development in European institutions and the United Nations. We are very excited to partner with Yale-NUS College and the Jackson Institute’s Global Health Studies Program as part of the networks and this webinar series.

Come join faculty members from the French Department for a virtual lunch or early dinner conversation (en français) via Zoom.
Les Tables françaises are a great place to practice your conversational French in an informal setting. French-speakers at all levels from the Yale Community are welcome to join.
Please contact the hosts via email for Zoom information.
Virtual Tables begin the week of February 8th. For questions, email Ruth Koizim or Bethany Hayes.
