Welcome back Trumbullians! We are officially halfway through the semester!

As we returned to campus over the weekend, on Monday evening we received a message from Kimberly M. Goff-Crews (Secretary and Vice President for University life) on free expression specifying the policies, resources, and support at Yale. Given the complex worldwide events, this is a poignant reminder of kindness, empathy, and compassion in everything we attempt to strive for at Yale. Please be on the lookout for various campus-wide events (early November) that will deal with dialogue regarding difficult topics.

We had two impromptu events recently at the Head’s House: a lunch on Saturday afternoon and a dinner on Tuesday evening. On Thursday we had two events: the CPR Workshop was held at the Buttery in the afternoon and a Fellow’s event honoring the recipients of Summer 2023 Stephen S. Gurney Travel Fellowship (Lazo Gitchos, Awa Cisse, Thien Le, Rashel Chipi, Nick Jacobson) in the evening. On Friday afternoon there was a successful event, hosted by a Grad Affiliate, for a tour of Brain Museum at the Cushing Center. On Saturday there will be a Hiking Trip to Sleeping Giant in Hamden and a Pumpkin Carving in the Courtyard, also hosted by Grad Affiliates.

Theatrical events with Trumbullians are continuing with success. In early November there is Hamlet (TBD; Nov 2-4) featuring many Trumbull performers, Phil Schneider (as Hamlet), Leo Egger (as Polonius), Meridian Monthy (as Horatio), Logan Ledman (as Marcellus). In mid-November Black and Blue Boys / Broken Men (Theater and Performance Studies Black Box; November 9-11) will feature Trumbull producer Maxwell Brown, and Little Women (TBD; November 9-11) will feature Trumbull assistant director Marissa Blum. In mid-November is Fiddler on the Roof (University Theater; November 15-18) featuring Trumbull performer Tybee Feiler. Finally, in early to mid-December are Alice by Heart (TBD; November 30-December 2) featuring director and musical director featuring Trumbull Sophie Dvorak, Arsenic and Old Lace (TBD; November 30-December 2) featuring Trumbull performers Samantha Fisher (as Teddy Brewster), Tybee Feiler (as Elaine Harper), and Serengeti Cox-Rodriguez (as Jonathan Brewster), and Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 (Theater and Performance Studies Black Box; December 7-9) featuring Trumbull performer
Jordi Bertrán Ramírez (as Anatole Kuragin).

Below is the continuing list of events coming up. Since timing of specific events are subject to change, please be on the lookout for emails regarding each event and please note some are by reservation and/or invitation. Please write to me if you would like to feature an event, across all disciplines and crafts, in which you are participating and/or your most recent achievements.

Dwight Hall is hosting a Day of Service on Saturday, November 4th from 12-5 pm, for all students interested in getting involved in New Haven service activities! Volunteers will have an opportunity to participate in groups with students from their residential college. The volunteers from the residential college with the most sign-ups will win a secret prize! Students can sign up using the following or using the QR code provided before November 3rd. Let’s channel our call to service Trumbullians.

We are all fortunate to be sharing this amazing Trumbull space, so let’s all please be mindful of our environment - in terms of safety and cleanliness. A special request from residents on the higher floors, we ask that you kindly refrain from throwing out trash, such as food and miscellaneous items, outside your window as they are landing spaces facing the courtyard. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation on this matter.

The hallowed hallways of Trumbull College also carry sound well - so let’s cap the noise level, especially after hours. A specific safety reminder to all regarding the crazy New Haven traffic. Please take extra caution when crossing roads all around campus.

For Halloween celebrations over the next few days, I am hopeful that you will practice good judgment. On November 3rd, I heard great plans (by TC Council) for Rumbull in Trumbull with Miniature Golf, Tie-dye T-shirts, and much more! Have fun!

Please note that I will be away the entire week of October 30th. But I’m always reachable by email. Be safe!

Moo-Rah!

Sincerely,
Head Hyder
