Hello Trumbullians!

As the semester workload begins to pick up, I hope this message finds you well. For the most part, this week’s weather has stayed quite cool and dry, except for the wet weekend leading into Monday. My periodic check-ins with Trumbullians suggest that time is your most precious commodity. Please finding a moment to pause and just pacing oneself is good practice for a sense of well-being, and to that I remind you (again) of many campus-wide resources like YC3 College Care should you need some support. YC3 will be offering a few different therapy group offerings for the Fall 2023 term. If you have interest in any of these support groups, please contact college.care.clinicians@yale.edu.

Trumbull events are also beginning to pick up, which I hope you are actively participating in. This past Monday evening there was a Movie Night (organized by Grad Affiliates). Also on Monday, Associate Head Anita Sharif-Hyder and I along with the past Head Margaret Clark and Associate Head Fred Polner hosted a Yom Kippur Celebration at the HoC House. It was a full house with many Trumbullians and even a few guests from other colleges! On Tuesday evening there was a Law School Q&A (organized by Grad Affiliates) and Self Defense Training (courtesy of Christopher Adamchek). On Thursday afternoon our first fall Tea with Federica Du Pasquier (at the HoC House) had good food and great discussion. Also, on later in the evening was the Trumball, and despite its being held offsite this year, it was a fun evening all around. Trumbull IM participants are showing up, and consequently we seem to be holding well in standings. Moo-Rah!

As mentioned last week, please write to me if you would like to feature an event, across all disciplines and crafts, in which you are participating and/or your most recent achievements. Trumbullians are actively presenting their talents and crafts in various campus-wide activities. Let’s all show our appreciation by witnessing their performances.

Huge shout-outs to first-years Jiayang Jin and JT Timmers for becoming newest members of acapella groups Spizzwinks and Alley Cats. Also, listed below are stage performances where many Trumbullians are featured.

In early October there is Education (Iseman Theater; October 5-7) featuring two performers, Leo Egger (as Mr. Hathe) and Meridian Monthy (as Superintendent Hochstetter). In mid-October Sophie Dvorak is the Musical Director contributing to Disguise: A Night of Scenes (TBD; Oct 13-14) and Untitled Concert (TBD; Oct 13). Also in mid-October is Desert Island / Girls Who Golf (TBD; Oct 12-14) with Samantha Fisher as Playwright & Director and Madeleine Loewen (as Ava) and Alex Shadman (as Mr. Reinhardt). By late October, there is 10:59 by Yale Artists Cabaret (TBD; Oct 27) with Katia George as the choreographer and many Trumbull performers: Sarah Feng, Jordi Bertrán Ramírez, Megan Ruoro, and Maxwell Brown. By early November there is Hamlet (TBD; Nov 2-4) featuring moreTrumbull performers, Phil Schneider (as Hamlet), Leo Egger (as Polonius), Meridian Monthy (as Horatio), and Logan Ledman (as Marcellus).

Let me remind you also that there are plenty of opportunities for Yale Student Support & Funding, from merit-based awards, to fellowships in innovative ideas spanning from sciences to arts, to various internship awards for international studies and summer research in STEMs, and many more. If you are interested, please reach out to either the Head’s office or Dean’s office for more information. In honor of the late Yale Professor Robert Dahl, one of the greatest American political scientists of the Twentieth Century, the Institution for Social and Policy Studies at Yale (ISPS) launched the Dahl Research Scholars in 2015 - 2016 academic year. The program is for Yale College students committed to positively influencing American public policy through research link: https://isps.yale.edu/programs/isps-fellowships/dahl-research-scholars. Also, a couple of important reminders from last week are the “Voter Registration in Connecticut” https://vote.yale.edu from University Registrar’s Office and “Guidelines for the Use of Generative AI Tools” from Provost Scott A. Strobel.

Please let Dean Surjit Chandhoke and I know of any concerns you may have, about academics or life on campus. I would like to reiterate that I’m available to meet in-person at the Head’s office, mostly on Wednesdays and Fridays, or other days as well by appointment. We can meet at either the Trumbull Head’s office or The Anlyan Center MRRC lab office, but please check-in with Reese McLeod first.

Have a great weekend and a productive next week. Moo-Rah!

Sincerely,

Head Hyder
