Last Dean’s Notes for Spring 2026

June 9, 2026

Hello Trumbullians,

I hope this finds you all doing very well! It is a beautiful June afternoon here in New Haven. Campus is pretty quiet, including Trumbull. We are one of the colleges hosting Yale Summer Session, so I have seen some familiar faces in the courtyard, which has been nice. :)

We had an amazing time celebrating our Trumbull seniors (now graduates!) last month. Congratulations again to all of them!! Here’s a little montage from Commencement. You may have noticed that Trumbull was well-represented on the various Yale social media platforms (and in this YouTube video), too! It was a wonderful weekend celebrating with TC’26, and senior week was a blast, too.

Given that I’ve been in this role as long as I have, reunion weekends are now a real treat! We welcomed TC’21 back for their 5-year reunion (another montage) and I was delighted to see Class of 2016 alums who I had as students and advisees in my “previous life” as Course Coordinator for the BIOL sequence. We also celebrated our wonderful Deb Bellmore’s retirement last week – it was a beautiful send-off hosted by Head Hyder and Associate Head Sharif-Hyder. I am going to miss Deb dearly, as we overlapped here in the Trumbull office for a decade (another fun montage)! Thankfully, she will remain a Trumbull Fellow. Sahej has been busy, too. He finishes first grade tomorrow! His class has been learning about eagles all year, so last week, they had a “fledging party” where they all “flew” into Edgerton Park and left the first grade “nest”! He was also a “Super-reader” the week before, and insisted on wearing his cape and mask for the rest of the day. :)

That’s my update. ;) I wanted to send one last “Dean’s Note” for the academic year, to say hello but also to inform you about my summer availability. My office hours (accessible via Calendly) ended on the last day of finals and will reopen closer to when classes start. Since Commencement, Alice and I have working on closing out the academic year and getting ready for TC’30! However, today is my last day before going on “release time”. I will be offline until July 28th. If you e-mail me during this time, please follow the instructions in my detailed auto-reply. Your questions will be answered, but out of respect to my RC Dean colleagues who will also be on release time, I will not reply.

Release time (for me) means releasing myself from my inbox! :) I am looking forward to some quality down time with my family. It has been three years since we have done a big summer Canada trip. So, that’s what we will be doing, starting with a road trip to my hometown of Plattsburgh, NY, then another road trip to Ontario where we’ll leave our car with family and fly out to Abbotsford, B.C. for a nice visit with Dr. Singh’s uncle and aunt and friends we have in Surrey, B.C.. Then we’ll fly to Calgary (where Dr. Singh grew up) where we’ll spend time with friends and make a trip to the Banff area. When we make our way back to New Haven in July, we look forward to enjoying the beach and other daily adventures. I’ll be sure to include a video in my pre-fall term message.

Please also save the date for our “Required check-in meetings for upper-level students” in the TC dining hall on Tuesday, September 1st:
Class of 2029: 9:00 a.m.
Class of 2028: 9:45 a.m.
Class of 2027: 10:30 a.m.

I hope that you all take some time to rest and decompress over the coming weeks/months. Best wishes for a wonderful summer to all of you!

Warmly,
Dean C/Chandhoke
