TrumBulletin 2-27-26

February 28, 2026

Hello Trumbullians!

Winter weather in New Haven is finally living up to its reputation given significant snowfall and deep freezes this past month. Fortunately, we had some reprieve later this week. Immense gratitude to our collective Trumbull college staff for their support to keep us going despite the inclement weather.

Last Tuesday evening (2/23) there was an Iftar at the HoC House with many Trumbullians, along with a few other students across campus, who broke fast just past sunset. Later that same evening, the Trumbull Men’s Team won the IM Basketball championship. Moo-Rah! Congratulations also to Jenelle Burgess ‘26, who was featured in the Schwarzman Center newsletter for performing in The Sweet Spot: Open Mic earlier in the month.

On Thursday afternoon (2/26) there was a Tea featuring an award winning journalist, author, and biographer Joshua Kendall, who gave a presentation about his most recent book Trudeau & Doonsebury: A Biography at the HoC House. Later that same evening, there was movie screening of Friday and Coming to America at the Nick Chapel Theater, hosted by BlackBull. On Friday afternoon (2/27) there was another Tea featuring Joshua Kendall, specifically for our student athletes at Mory’s.

As a reminder of the resources available to students regarding safety, Yale’s procedures for outside law enforcement on campus can be found on the Public Safety website and the OISS website. I am sharing an updated link on YPD’s guidance for interactions with law enforcement on campus. Please feel free to bookmark this page for quick reference. If not already downloaded, I encourage you to install the LiveSafe app on mobile devices. While the LiveSafe app provides a number of helpful services, the app’s direct text feature allows users to share immediate concerns directly with the YPD. Finally, all non-Trumbull visitors must enter through the security entrances on Elm Street. For the safety and security of all members of the community, please do not allow unknown individuals to “tailgate” through the swipe-operated access gates. This may mean waiting until the gate has fully closed before continuing to the interior of campus.

Tybee Feiler TC ’27 wants you to check out The Hedge next weekend which will take place in the Hopper Cabaret in the basement of Grace Hopper College, and the runtime is approximately 90 minutes with one intermission. The executive board of The Hedge, an investment banking club at an elite university, goes on their annual retreat to Cape Cod. Over a tumultuous two days in a secluded mansion, relationships are tested, secrets are revealed, and alliances are created. When an unexpected intruder bursts in, the board must reckon with the ways money can change people, and how far some people will go to preserve their reputation. Tickets can be found here.

Murtaza Kitabwalla GH ‘28 is the Assistant Producer for an upcoming play at Yale titled Saniya’s Salon (2/27-2/29) at the Saybrook Underbrook, which is a celebration of the vibrant South Asian community here in New Haven, written by Aanika Eragam and directed by Edie Wolfe Lipsey and Aanika Eragam. Saniya’s Salon follows Ritu, a salon owner in suburban Georgia, and her daughter, Saniya. It is a story that resonates deeply within South Asian culture: the intimate conversations that happen in the waxing chair, the beauty standards they inherit, and the way they navigate their identities across generations. Please go see this  production at Yale this season featuring a majority South Asian cast and crew, and it has been a true labor of love for all of in the cast and staff.

Ayshi Sen TD ‘28, one of the cultural chairs for South Asian Society at Yale, is thrilled to announce that the spring cultural showcase Dhamaal 2026, will be taking place this Sunday, March 1st from 3-5pm at Woolsey Hall. From vibrant dances to powerful music, this is an event you don’t want to miss! Register here and bring your friends and family to celebrate South Asian culture at Yale!

Sofia Costa Franco ’28 is writing about The Ones that Remain which will appear in April in Trumbull’s own Theater. It is 1971. A military dictatorship has been ruling Brazil for over seven years. The Paivas, a family of seven, are leading somewhat ordinary lives, tinted by the fear and repression of their country’s political system. But all of this is turned on its head when the father, Rubens Paiva, is kidnapped by the government and taken hostage due to his previous political affiliations. Eunice, his wife, must now scramble to find out where he is, what has happened to him, and try to get him home, all while caring for her home and children and navigating the watchful eye of government officials. How will she fare? Stay tuned for tickets.

Goeun Lee TC ’25, who is now a Postgraduate Associate at Yale School of Medicine, writes to inform you that the research team at the Yale Center of Excellence in Gambling Research is hosting a Movie Night at JE Theatre for Problem Gambling Awareness Month, and they wanted to Trumbull students. This will be both an enriching learning opportunity for those interested in addiction psychiatry/neuroscience research and a fun way to connect the week before spring break. For Problem Gambling Awareness Month, they are hosting a special event with a 10-minute talk by Dr. Marc Potenza, followed by a film screening of Ballad of a Small Player (starring Colin Farrell), a powerful look at problem gambling and its impact. This event will be at Johnathan Edwards Theatre on March 4th at 5pm. Pizza and beverages will be provided! Register here.

Jodi Westwater, Assistant Vice President of Hospitality write to say that Yale Hospitality are in the process of planning an upcoming Ivy+ Conference and would love to invite a small group of students to participate in a 45-minute panel discussion as part of this exchange. The Ivy+ forum brings together peer Ivy institutions to share perspectives and learn from one another, and student voice is an important part of that dialogue. They are hoping to include students who are interested in campus dining, food systems, sustainability, culture, and the overall student dining experience to help ground the conversation in lived experience. The panel would be an informal, facilitated discussion by Yale College where students are invited to share perspectives and respond to the submitted questions of interest to the Ivy+ Dining group, such as:

  • What matters most to students in the residential dining experience
  • Perceptions of variety, quality, and value
  • Sustainability and food waste awareness
  • Communication, transparency, and feedback channels
  • Ideas or innovations students would like to see explored

This dining conversation will take place on Thursday, March 5th between 2-2:45pm at the Humanities Quadrangle, 320 York Street.  They would love to know if any Trumbull students that may interested in participating? Please write to Jodi Westwater directly.

Stay safe and stay warm in this cold stretch of the semester! If you are planning to getaway during Spring Break, please find out about travel requirements beforehand.

Sincerely,
HoC Hyder
