Senior Week TrumBulletin

The sun is out and with the best of luck it will remain out.

It appears that we might make it through graduation without more rain but I must admit I am a bit worried about Monday given that we received a message from the Yale College Dean’s office asking if we wished to purchase plastic covers for our diplomas and more plastic ponchos.  We will have such supplies on hand but let’s all keep our fingers crossed for the rain holding off on Monday.

What will happen on Monday is that graduation will be on Old Campus and the diploma ceremony will be in our courtyard if it does not rain.  If it rains, graduation remains on Old Campus but is shortened and our diploma ceremony moves to Battell Chapel.  We’ll keep you informed.

I write now to say I’m going to miss all of you and……

Today and tonight:

Wednesday, May 15, the following events will occur in the House.

#1  Breakfast from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. or so.

Just come in, proceed to the pantry, and help yourself to what’s on the buffet.  There are also lots of eggs in the kitchen and you can make them there if you wish.

#2   Informal, relaxed, reception in the House starting 7:00 p.m. (At 8:00 p.m. there will be bonfire in the courtyard and you can leave through the backyard gate and join in.)  There will be snacks and drinks available in the house.

#3   Fire-pit event in the courtyard starting at 8:00 p.m. (hosted by your senior committee).

I will provide some quilts and chairs in case.   I’ll keep the house open for the evening in case you need to warm up and get something warm to drink.

Tomorrow, Thursday, May 16th, the following events will occur, one in the House, the other in the courtyard.

#1  Breakfast in the House from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or so.

#2  Trumbull Annual clam-bake in the courtyard with lobsters, clams and mussels, corn, potatoes, chicken, lemonade, beer, wine (served by a bartender) and very good cake which Deb Bellmore always makes sure we have on hand.  For those with allergies, religious restrictions, and vegetarians/vegans there will be other options.

Sunday

Baccalaureate service for Trumbull (Silliman, Branford, and JE) at 11:00 a.m. (Line up earlier following the Dean’s instructions.  Wear robe but no hat.)

Class Day at 2:00 p.m. (Line up earlier following the Dean’s instructions.  Wear robe and ridiculous hat.)

Monday

Graduation!  9:00 a.m. assemble in courtyard.  Follow Dean’s instructions.  We process to cross-campus and stand there for a while chatting and taking pictures until we are signaled to process across the Green, through Phelps Gate and onto Old Campus.  Wear robe and mortar board and Trumbull stoles.  (Stoles will be handed out at line up in main courtyard and collected after graduation is over.)  After Old Campus ceremony, come back to Trumbull or go to Battell as instructed.  (You’ll know which one applies before we go to Old Campus.)
