Welcome back Trumbullians!

I sincerely hope last semester is a fond, somewhat distant, memory. For those whom I’ve met since last weekend, you all look well rested, suggesting a very good winter break. Although some of us may be in midst of shopping period, I hope that most of you have landed on the courses that you had in mind. I wish you best as Spring 2024 semester begins, as there’s always lots of opportunities to consider almost right away.

As you shop for classes, please consider enrolling in the unique offerings from The Yale College Residential College Seminars, sponsored by the fourteen residential colleges. These seminars are unique and innovative courses that fall outside traditional departmental courses. Click here YC College Seminars to check out these courses if you like. If you have specific questions, please contact Dr. Christina Ferando, Director of Undergraduate Studies, Residential College Seminar Program.

It is time for the CPA Spring 2024 Awards, with the deadline fast approaching this weekend: Sunday, January 21st at 11:59pm. Please visit the CPA website to learn more about the awards and guidelines. If you have any questions about the CPA award, please reach out to me in the time that remains. Each residential college will announce CPA Awards in early/mid-February. Good luck with the applications! Let me remind you that there are tremendous amounts of art resources for all Yale students. This Art Resources outlines the resources available to undergraduate students seeking funding support for art courses and supplies. If you have specific questions, please reach out to Daisy C. Abreu, MFA, Administrative Coordinator for the Arts.

The AFAM House is hosting some Residential Mixers in the coming days. These student brunch mixers, specifically for Black-identified students within each residential college, will be hosted on Sundays 12-1pm. The Saybrook/Trumbull Mixer will be held on Sunday, January 21st in the Saybrook Dining Hall.

The American Red Cross at Yale (ARCY) is conducting their third blood drive of the year at Dwight Hall next week January 22-26. This is the National Blood Donor month and the American Red Cross has recently declared an emergency shortage, so ARCY is hoping to recruit as many donors as possible. If you would like to donate, you can schedule an appointment here.

The Peabody Museum is offering paid summer internships for Yale undergraduates across a variety of disciplines. These are valuable opportunities to conduct research and work with Peabody collections, and many of the past projects have evolved into publications, presentations, and senior theses. Seniors graduating this May are unfortunately not eligible. Please check out the complete set of opportunities and application form on their website. The application deadline is Friday, January 26th.

The IRIS Run for Refugees Race is a long time Trumbull tradition! The IRIS Run for Refugees is on Sunday, February 11th. Be sure to fully explore their website for all details. Please use the discount code: Trumbull24 to sign up.  You enter the code at checkout. Let’s get a good Trumbull turnout for this great cause.

As I have mentioned before, let me help you publicize your events. With that in mind, I would like to announce an art event to all Trumbull students. In Dialogue is an artists’ presentation and potluck event open to the Yale community. The event will be hosted by Trumbull’s own Sonya Sagan-Dworsky at the 32 Edgewood Gallery on Saturday, January 27th from 5 pm onward. The event invites creatives from multiple fields, including visual art, music, writing, poetry, dance, film, and theater, to discuss artistic pursuits and current projects. The night’s two presenters are Cleo Maloney, a painter from Los Angeles, California, and Danya Blokh, a poet and filmmaker from Birmingham, Alabama. Each artist will explain the processes involved with their individual practices, share their inspirations, and display samples of their work. After the presentations, guests are invited to partake in a potluck-style meal and gather in the space while singer Neve O’Brien performs. If you plan on attending, please RSVP using the attached link.

On Thursday, February 1st at 4 pm, there will be a Trumbull College Tea by Dr. Martin Nguyen, Professor of Religious Studies at Fairfield University, at the Head of College House. The title of his presentation is “The Challenges of Contemporary Muslim Theology & Ethics”. I hope to see some of you there and please suggest your own Tea guests/speakers as well.

If you are interested in financial stability after Yale, then join Branford Resident Fellow Steve Blum and his fellow alumnus John Caserta ‘01 for “Financial Life After Yale” which started 10 years ago, more than 200 of these sessions have attracted more than 4,000 Yalies. If you would like to attend, then please register here.

Please note new Policies on Recording, Posting and Chalking at Yale University at large. It reinforces the existing policies, although it does require that people putting up posters indicate the name of the person and/or entity putting up the poster. Please adhere by these new policies.

I wish you good luck for the semester. As the intramurals resume, I hope to see some of you at the upcoming events.

Moo-Rah!

Sincerely,

Head Hyder
