Hello Trumbullians!
These first two weeks of the semester have been a blur, with important academic deadlines and national milestones. But I hope shopping period ended without much anxiety and you landed courses of your wishes.
The Trumbull events are already in full swing. For example, the Zipline event last Sunday (1/19) organized by Grad Affiliate Rose Bender ’19 had more than 30 Trumbullians show up for a roping course adventure. Do you love teaching, working with kids, and building a community? Jenelle Burgess ’26 and Co-Director Steven Rourick, would like you to know about an exciting opportunity to give back to the New Haven community! The Ulysses S. Grant Foundation is hiring Yale student teachers for its 2025 summer program! Established in 1953, U.S. Grant is a six-week academic enrichment program for highly motivated New Haven public middle school students. Working alongside experienced veteran educators, teachers design and teach their own curriculum and collaborate closely with fellow Yale undergraduates. Teachers will be compensated with a $6,000 stipend for a seven-week commitment in the summer of 2025. Teachers will be expected to attend a one-week training in New Haven from June 16th-June 22nd and then teach Monday through Friday from June 23rd-July 30th. Applications will close on January 27th at 11:59 pm EST. CLICK HERE TO APPLY! If you’re interested or have any questions, visit their website, follow them on Instagram @yaleusgrant, or email them at usgrantdirectors@yale.edu.
The Winter Season of IM sports is upon us, with MHOOPS (Men’s Basketball), CHOOPS (co-ed basketball), WHOOPS (women’s basketball), BROOMBALL (basically hockey without skates), and DODGEBALL (I trust you are all familiar). Trumbull is ranked well overall, but the IM secretaries have a lot planned for IM participants (new merch, fun parties with free food, more of the old merch), so please get involved.
In my last week’s note, I mentioned the possibility of ‘planetary alignment’ sighting (of Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune) using conventional telescopes from late January into early February. Has anyone obtained photographs of this rarest of events on camera? Please share if you have!
Moo-Rah!
Sincerely,
Head Hyder
