Hello Trumbullians!

I hope your shopping period ended without much disappointment. I hope you have landed on courses that you had planned for. I wish you good beginnings for a great semester. It’s amazing how quickly two weeks have passed since the semester began, and many initiatives are already beginning to populate our calendars.

The Winter Season of IM sports is upon us. Games start NEXT WEEK. The IM secretaries are hosting a kick-off event in the Trumbull Buttery on Sunday, January 28th from 8-9:30pm! There will be LOTS of free donuts and hot chocolate, so even if you have never remotely thought about playing an IM sport you should come and learn more and bring all your friends. The IM secretaries will answer any questions you may have. The winter sports this year are MHOOPS (Men’s Basketball), CHOOPS (co-ed basketball), WHOOPS (women’s basketball), BROOMBALL (basically hockey without skates), and DODGEBALL (I trust you are all familiar). Trumbull is in 4th place overall and the IM secretaries have a lot planned for regular IM participants (new merch, fun parties with free food, more of the old merch), so in the name of Trumbull glory, I highly encourage getting involved.

On Thursday, February 1st at 4 pm, there will be a Trumbull College Tea by Dr. Martin Nguyen, Professor of Religious Studies at Fairfield University, at the Head of College House. The title of his presentation is “The Challenges of Contemporary Muslim Theology & Ethics”.

Yale Undergraduate Science Olympiad (YUSO) is looking for volunteers for the 11th annual Invitational on Saturday, February 10th. High school students come to Yale to compete in a team-based Science Olympiad competition. Volunteers will help ensure everything runs smoothly (guiding participants, grading papers, ushering during the award ceremony, etc.) No prior experience in Science Olympiad/Science Background is required! If you are interested, please fill out the Google Form by 11:59 PM on Thursday, February 1st. All volunteers will get a free T-shirt and food on the day of the competition. Please reach out to sheel.trivedi@yale.edu and jing.lin@yale.edu if you have any questions or concerns!

The IRIS Run for Refugees is on Sunday, February 11th. Be sure to fully explore their website for all details and use the discount code: Trumbull24 to sign up.  Let’s get a good Trumbull turnout for this great cause.

This semester Yale College Community Care (YC³) is trying something new. If students attend two YC³ workshops between the months of January and February, they will receive a free plant. I am noticing some lack of cleanliness and décor in our beautiful, shared spaces like the Common Room, the Kitchen, the Buttery, etc). Please apply common sense to keep these spaces free of debris and messiness. Please clean up after yourself and leave the space better than you found it before.

Since many of you are involved with many activities, I remind of policies on fundraising by student organizations. There are details about fundraising for registered nonprofits that you should be familiar with.

Please drop by the HoC Office to discuss your concerns, ask questions, or just to say hi. I wish you good luck for the semester.

Moo-Rah!

Sincerely,
Head Hyder
