Hello Trumbullians!
I sincerely hope that midterms are going well for you. Last Saturday afternoon, Associate Head Anita Sharif-Hyder and I hosted the Family Weekend Reception at the HoC House. Despite the rain, it was very well attended, and many fruitful connections were made. Late Monday evening, we had continuation of the Self Defense Training with Christopher Adamchek at the Dance Studio. On Tuesday evening, the meet & greet event for Resident Fellows Teresa Chahine and Jorge Anaya at the Common Room was sweet success!
Later in the week, we had some theatrical performances by Trumbullians. Sophie Dvorak is the Musical Director contributing to Disguise: A Night of Scenes (Oct 13-14) and Untitled Concert (Oct 13). Also Desert Island / Girls Who Golf (Oct 12-14) features Samantha Fisher as Playwright & Director and Madeleine Loewen (as Ava) and Alex Shadman (as Mr. Reinhardt).
This week the repairs affecting Entryways A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H and the HoC Office suite continued, with the hope that we will be secure before any cold fronts arrive.
As some of you may know, I’ve been in Seattle most of this week for the BMES Conference, where I met with many Yale folks, like junior Yusuf Rasheed (TC ‘25) and senior Allen Dong (BF ‘24), both BME majors. Coincidentally, I was on the same flight to Seattle with parents of first-year Amare Fields (TC ‘27).
On Friday (10/13), from 2:30-4 pm in Davies Auditorium, YaleBleeds is hosting a conference to raise awareness around endometriosis with #EndEndoSilence. All are welcome and encouraged to register. The event will be moderated by Veronika Denner (ES ‘23.5) who had to stay on medical leave due to endometriosis from March 2022 to January 2023.
On Sunday (10/15), from 2-5pm in TC Common Room, there will be a bracelet making event. Junior Aranyo Ray (GH ‘25) is the Chaplain Fellow for Trumbull College, and calling all Trumbull sophomores! Come make bead bracelets, enjoy popsicles, and chat with a “Chellow” to learn more about hospitality, cultivating deep conversations, and the Chaplaincy Fellowship (includes an alternative spring break trip to Washington DC).

During this busy time, I remind you of some important emails that you may have missed. On October 10, there was an email from Burgwell J. Howard (Associate Vice President for Student Life, Dean of Student Engagement) on “How to get involved in the presidential search Presidential Search”. All seniors also received an email on October 10 from Alison Coleman (Lecturer in English and Director of Special Projects) about Class Day Committee. Additionally, let me remind you that Yale School of Management has a new Master’s in Asset Management program, which is a relatively new degree conceived by late David Swensen. Please contact ex-Trumbullian Laurel Grodman ‘02 BA, ‘06 MBA (Assistant Dean for Admissions, School of Management) if you have any questions. There are special admission perks for Yale students.
There was a major announcement for Bulldog Student-Athletes this week. In partnership with Yale Mental Health & Counseling, Yale is launching an embedded program dedicated to student-athlete mental health within Yale Athletics Department. Dr. Maria Guzman, a licensed clinical psychologist, is a full-time mental health counselor who will work directly with student-athletes to provide them counseling services, including single-appointment and recurring consultations.
The Poorvu Center for Teaching & Learning is recruiting students (Class of 2025 and beyond) for its Pedagogical Partners program for Spring/Fall 2024. The program’s goal is to create a dialogue about teaching and learning through a semester-long partnership between a student and an instructor where the student acts as a pedagogical consultant. The program centers student perspectives from historically marginalized identities at Yale to ensure all voices are valued in the learning process. If interested, consider attending the Open House on Monday, October 23rd, 2023 from 5-6pm in the Poorvu Center. Apply now by November 6!
Given so many conflicts happening all around the world, we are all impacted directly or indirectly. Thus, I implore you to consider many campus-wide resources like Yale College Community Care (YC3) or the Yale Chaplain’s Office should you need some support or some level of peace.
As a reminder before Fall Break (October 18-22), please take precautionary measures in your travels. If you are on campus during this break, we look forward to seeing you for meals at Branford, Davenport, Hopper, Morse, Saybrook, Silliman, and Stiles. The Trumbull dining hall opens on Sunday evening of Fall Break.
Moo-Rah!
Sincerely,
Head Hyder
