TrumBulletin 10-26-21

October 26, 2021
We’re halfway through the semester.  I hope all had a good October break whether you remained here on campus or traveled home or elsewhere.

Of course we’re still in the midst of mid-term season which seems to me to last from a couple of weeks into the semester until Thanksgiving break.

Junior Class study breaks and receptions tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 26th:  Group #1 8:30 to 9:30; Group #2 9:30 to 10:30.  Whereas we used to host receptions for each class that included everyone at one time, our CoVid-caution-rules dictate that we break these into smaller groups if they are inside.  (And who would want to be outside on a day like today?) Thus, we’re hosting our juniors tonight from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 in the House and then again from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m.  I look forward to seeing you tonight.  (Actually, it occurs to me that our juniors and seniors will be the only ones who remember those big study breaks!)

If you’re off campus know that the weather is predicted to be bad (windy and rainy), be careful when (and if) you venture out!!!

Trumbull Tea with Professor Phil Goff, coming up on Thursday, Oct. 28th with dinner at 5:30
and a talk and discussion with him afterwards.   We are back to having Trumbull Teas.  We’ll have several this year starting with one on Thursday with Prof. Phil Goff, a relatively new faculty member in African American Studies (but a very well-established researcher and professor).

We will begin at 5:30 with a dinner in the House for those of you who have signed up.  Afterwards, Dr. Goff will give a talk on policing in the US in the living room.  There will be lots of time for meeting him and discussions during dinner and right after the talk.  The spots for this tea were limited (due to those CoVid restrictions!) and taken very quickly.

We have a wait list.  This means that if you signed up but cannot attend, you should notify me (margaret.clark@yale.edu) and Deb Bellmore (deborah.bellmore@yale.edu) right away so that we are able to include people from the wait list if possible.

Dr. Goff is well aware that people are busy at this time of year but, if you have time, he suggests reading an article he recently wrote with Gwen Prose entitled, “Why Seeing the Big Picture in the Study of Public Safety is Necessary for Combatting Racism Within It”.

Game night, Thursday, Oct. 28th from 6 p.m. to 8 pm.  This Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. join our grad affiliates in the Buttery for game night.  Our graduate affiliates, Zara Contractor, Chance Adkins and Hannah Savitz, will have games available for play and you may also bring your own favorite games.  By the way, these grad affiliates come from the Ph.D. programs in psychology and in economics so, if you are interested in those areas you might stop by to meet them and talk to them (or set up times to talk to them) about their experiences as graduate students in those areas.  Please RSVP to zara.contractor@yale.edu.

Spooky Tour of the Yale Art Gallery, Friday, Oct. 29th at 11 a.m.  Join two of our other graduate affiliates, Diego Fernandez-Pages and Raquel Leslie (from the law school) for a Halloween-themed tour of the Yale University Art Gallery.  Halloween treats are provided.  RSVP to raquel.leslie@yale.edu.

By the way, Diego is a former Trumbull undergraduate student and Trumbull Fro-Co.  He worked for a while outside of a university setting and has returned to Yale as a law student.  Those of you who like Halloween and have an interest in law school as well might attend this.
And I’d advise everyone to make a trip to the Yale Art Gallery sometime before graduating.
It’s a treasure that few universities have.

Senior Mellon Reminder:  We are meeting on Monday, Nov. 1st, for our first official Mellon Presentations at our second official Mellon Forum Meeting.

Coming Soon, November 4th, 7 p.m. Trumbull Baking.   Watch your email for sign ups.  Jordan Thomas from the law school and Dena Shata also from the law school will lead this.
