The chill is in the air as we approach the Thanksgiving season. If you are planning to travel, near or far, please do so with plenty of preparation. If you are on campus, please know that Dean of Yale College Pericles Lewis and Chair of the Council of Heads of College and Head Catherine Panter-Brick would like to invite you to attend the Yale College Thanksgiving Dinner at the Omni Hotel on Thursday, November 28th, from 12-2pm. Seating is limited, and students planning to attend must register in advance. I am sure you remember that Saturday November 23th is The Game!! Please find the necessary information on Yale’s website as well as Harvard’s website. Bus tickets are on sale now. The housing details for Cabot House is here.
On Tuesday (11/12) afternoon, the HoC House of Trumbull College hosted at Tea for Brian Young, who is Yale University and Columbia University alumnus, an author, and a filmmaker. It was a moving Tea where Navajo words were spoken, and difficult memories were shared. Later, a few select Trumbullians and students from other colleges broke bread with our guest at the HoC House. They shared words of being thankful in the current world.
On Thursday (11/14) evening there was a special Trumbull Fellows event at the HoC House (only for Trumbull Fellows), where last year’s Gurney Summer Travel Fellow recipients presented their amazing experiences around the world. These seniors and their topics are mentioned below.
· Meridian Monthy “A Culture of Community: Exploring Cambodia’s Theatrical Tradition”
· Yasmine Chokrane “Steeped in Tradition: A Tour of Southeast Asia’s Tea Cultures”
· Annabel Wallace “Volunteering at Zion Community Clinic: Lessons in Rural Healthcare”
· Daniel Havlat “Europe on two wheels: the scenery was breathtaking, and so were the hills!”
Also present at this event was the person who names is on the award itself, Steve Gurney, a Yale alumnus and a previous Yale squash coach.
Below is the continuing list of Trumbull events coming up. Since timing of specific events are subject to change, please be on the lookout for emails regarding each event and please note some are by reservation and/or invitation. Please write to me if you would like to feature an event, across all disciplines and crafts, in which you are participating and/or your most recent achievements.

As a founder her initiatives bridge cultural understanding, entrepreneurial innovation, and preservation, driving meaningful impact locally and globally.
Alex Muñoz, the moderator, is the McCluskey Fellow in Conservation at the Yale School of the Environment. DesignOne, led by Yale alumnus and world renowned architect Dan Ameresekere, is embarking on a groundbreaking venture - a Global Design Hackathon for City2100. This virtual and in-person event invites students, professionals, and innovators from around the world to generate ideas for Smart Cities of the Future. They are focusing specifically on an artificial island group in Dubai as the context and are eager to explore urban design possibilities with fresh, creative minds from all fields. The hackathon encourages a collaborative approach, bringing together contributions from architects, urban planners, environmental scientists, and other disciplines. They invite students from Trumbull College to participate and share their perspectives on designing adaptable, sustainable urban landscapes. Their jury includes experts from various fields, which will allow for insightful feedback from unique perspectives during the presentations. Because this is a worldwide event, the timing in CT is as follows:
- Group Session will occur November 17th-18th, from Sunday night 11:30pm to Sunday morning 5:30am.
- Presentation Session will occur Sunday November 18th from 7:30am-9:30am.

Here is an opportunity for first-year students to engage with sustainability through the Yale College First-Year Sustainability Program. The program is run through Yale Sustainability, as well as by Alessandra Pappalardi and Lauren Thelwell, both TC ‘27. They offer weekend events where students can learn about sustainable practices — and meet other first-years— in a relaxed setting. So far, they have made sustainable snacks, toured the Wooster Square CitySeed farmer’s market, crafted with free books from Grey Matter Books, and even visited the Yale Farm. They are excited to continue expanding our activities and connecting with first-year students.
The Yale Hunger and Homelessness Action Project (YHHAP) Fast team is seeking your support for this semester’s fundraiser. As a reminder: The YHHAP Fast is the largest student-run fundraiser on Yale’s campus. Once a semester, over 50% of Yale’s student body donates their Yale Dining meal swipes for the day of the Fast. Faculty members and alumni also join our cause by donating directly to the YHHAP Fast fund—and thanks to your generosity, they raised $15,310 last year! 100% of the proceeds from the Fast support organizations that address housing and food insecurity in New Haven, from emergency shelters to kitchens to advocacy groups. This semester they will support four NHV orgs combating food waste, providing residential care, and alleviating food insecurity on the ground: Haven’s Harvest, Continuum of Care, Sunrise Cafe, and newest addition New Reach! You can read more about previous Fast work here: YDN YHHAP Article. This year, the Fast will be held on November 23rd, 2024 * They will be accepting donations until 8pm on Nov 22nd! Would you consider a) contributing, and b) spreading this information to department students/colleagues? They understand that this is a busy point in the semester, and they thank you for your consideration!
For direct donations: Venmo @Yhhap-Yale (include “Fast” in the description)
For contributing meal swipes: YHHAP Donation Page
As winter approaches, if any student has additional needs for warm clothes or wants to donate some warm clothes for others, please look out for messages from the HoC Office.
Moo-Rah!
Sincerely,
Head Hyder
