TrumBulletin 2-21-25

February 21, 2025

Hello Trumbullians!

Midterm is in full swing, and so are many distractions, or are they attractions?

Yale’s Men’s Basketball team is having a great season! So please show up to lend your support at 7pm Friday (2/21) and 7pm Saturday (2/22) playing Cornell and Columbia, respectively.

The Belonging at Yale office has organized several events to raise awareness over common ground topics. This weekend two events are inspired by the power of languages spoken at Yale. On Friday (2/21; 3-5pm) in Dow Hall (Room 100) called “Heritage Meets Heritage Celebration” and on Saturday (2/22; 4-5:30pm) in 53 Wall Street called “International Mother Language Day”. Another event on Tuesday (2/25; 5:30-7pm) in Battell Chapel called “Polyphony” features a musical ensemble aiming to bridge the divide between Arab and Jewish communities in Israel. Locally in Trumbull, we are gearing up for some fun and engaging events coming up.

The Winter Season of IM sports is in full swing, with MHOOPS (Men’s Basketball), CHOOPS (co-ed basketball), WHOOPS (women’s basketball), BROOMBALL (basically hockey without skates), and DODGEBALL (I trust you are all familiar). Thanks to Ryan Fernandes ’28 and help of the Yale Computer Society, you can now track the ranking of the competition for the Tyng Cup. Trumbull is ranked well overall, but the IM secretaries have a lot planned for IM participants (new merch, fun parties with free food, more of the old merch), so please get involved.

Sponsored by the Yale Sustainable Food Program, Annie Faye Cheng ’20 is coming to Yale talk about her pathways in food and hospitality next Tuesday (2/18: 430-5:30pm) at the LGBTQ Center Café (135 Prospect Street) to talk about “Paths in Food & Hospitality” which features her work in queer food communities via pop-ups, mutual aid, and food writing. The event will conclude with a knife skills demonstration. No registration required. The Yale Sustainable Food Program is also hiring for the Lazarus Fellow.

ClimateHaven is looking for a student intern to be a right-hand person to their CEO, Justine Lee. This role would be ideal for someone early in their career who wants to see first-hand how to build a small innovation-focused non-profit. Ideally, they find a third-year Yale College student who could stay with them for a few semesters. They need someone willing to do a wide range of tasks, including the mundane. It would be good for someone interested in climate tech innovation, in learning to raise funds for a non-profit, and in learning to build corporate partnerships to help startups. They need someone who can write fast and well.

The Laura Bassi Scholarship, which awards a total of $8,000 thrice per annum, was established in 2018 with the aim of providing editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed. Buckley, Jr. Essays are due by 11:59pm PST on April 15, 2025, and more details can be found here

Seniors, if you are considering various career options and graduate programs, please consider the Silver Scholars Program at the Yale School of Management, a unique MBA experience for ambitious college seniors. This program allows college seniors to earn a Yale MBA degree in three years directly after graduation, spring-boarding them toward their career goals and leadership positions. Candidates of all majors are welcome to apply. There will be an information session about the Silver Scholars Program in Evans Hall on Tuesday, March 4th  at 6pm where admissions officers from Columbia Business School, Harvard Business School, Kellogg School of Management, MIT Sloan School of Management, Stanford Graduate School of Business, UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, University of Chicago Booth School of Business, UCLA Anderson School of Management, University of Virginia Darden School of Business, the Wharton School of Management, and the Yale School of Management will discuss the value of pursuing an MBA as an undergraduate student.

The Theater and Music Room in the sub-basement of Trumbull College had some water damage a couple of weeks ago, but things are almost back to regular usage. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Please drop by the HoC Office to discuss your concerns, ask questions, or just to say hello! I wish you continued good luck for the semester.

Moo-Rah!

Sincerely,
Head Hyder
