June 21, 2023
TrumBulletin March 1, 2023 The semester is passing quickly. I know there will be lots of P-sets and mid-terms occurring now and up through next week. We’ll have a study break next week and keep in mind that we’ll soon have our first two-week traditional spring break to catch up with friends and family, to catch up on sleep and just to relax a bit. Reminder: Trumbull Tea, tomorrow (Thursday) at 4 p.m. in the Trumbull House Our guest will be film maker Max Barbakow. Our host and introducer will be our own Marc Bertoni. Barbakow’s narrative feature debut premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. It received two Golden Globe nominations, a Writers Guild of America Award nomination for best original screenplay and the Critics’ Choice Award for best comedy. Barbakow also wrote and directed Mommy, I’m a Bastard! which is an autobiographical feature documentary about his adoption. Max is a Yale College graduate and earned his MFA from the AFI Conservatory. There will be drinks and snacks available in the House at 4 p.m. Come join us. Lots of Congratulations. First, congratulations to our IM CHoops Basketball Champions. Trumbull’s team just beat Berkeley’s team in the finals for CHoops. They now join our championship Pickleball Team from the fall in this top honor and they get to have dinner as a team at Trumbull’s expense. (Please see the attached photograph of these Trumbull champions!) Congratulations also go to Trumbull’s Maxwell Brown who directed this past weekend’s wonderful production of The Whiz. He and his entire group did a fantastic job pulling this production together and making many audience members (including me) happy. And, in the same weekend, actually the same day, I was able to see Bloodshot the Dramat’s production that featured many first year students. Trumbull’s Brennan Columbia-Walsh was the co-producer for the show. Elio Wentzel served as Lighting Director for the show, Aanika Eragam served as Costume Designer and Cuatro Villareal played the roles of James & the Naked Man. They all did a great job. Congratulations also go to Thais Shepard for her terrific art show which is currently “up” in our gallery. Go see it! There’s still time. Lots of Thanks. I have lots of people to thank. First. I thank the entire Trumbull dining staff for putting on a spectacular Black History Month dinner. I further thank all the many people who came together to put on an art gallery showing of the work of our Fellows’ children on Friday evening. Those people include Deb Bellmore who put out the work and organized the show, Reese McLeod and our team of Trumbull aides who made certificates for each participant, Thais Shepard and Hannah Qin who volunteered to display all the work in our art gallery (and did a terrific job), Karen Eisenman who oversaw the dinner for all participants and their family members in the Trumbull House before the show and Samuel Ostrove who came to the show and took individual photographs of each participant and their art. I also thank all the families who participated. I thank Steve Gurney for his support of our Gurney Fellowships and the selection committee for that fellowship (all of whom are working hard this week). That committee is headed by fellow Andy Shimp and includes his fellow fellows Joliana Yee and Mark Mitchell. Finally, I thank Jenn Strtak, our lead graduate affiliate (from Renaissance Studies and History, who leads all our graduate affiliates and also hosted a special trip and tour of Yale’s Art Gallery for Trumbull students today.
