TrumBulletin 3-15-22

March 15, 2022

TrumBulletin: 3-15-2022.

We’re getting close to spring break but we’re not quite there yet and I know people are working hard on papers, problem sets and studying for some exams.

We’ll have two little breaks for you tomorrow.

A little St. Patrick’s Day BreakTomorrow, Wednesday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (simultaneously with dinner) we will have some treats available to you in the Common Room to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.  Stop by the Common Room and pick up a little St. Patrick’s Day gift or treat.

(And, on Saint Patrick’s Day itself our dining hall will be featuring corned beef and cabbage to celebrate.)

And, a little Purim Treat.   The Jewish celebration of Purim begins tomorrow night.  We want to celebrate that as well.  So, tomorrow, Wednesday, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. stop by the House and help yourself to some cookies and sparkling cider, coffee and tea.  We’ll have some traditional hamantaschen available to you (translated  tri-angular, hat shaped cookies with a variety of fillings) as well as other cookies.

Know that Purim is also a traditional time for having fun, being a bit silly and using noise-makers.  So do that as you look forward to Spring Break (but just make a little noise being mindful that people are still working hard and some will have big assignments due on Thursday.)

Some Thanks.   Finally I have lots of people to thank this week.  On Saturday we finally pulled off our Trumbull Ski trip and I want to thank Deb Bellmore (Trumbull Operations Manager), Frederick Polner (Associate Head), Wyatt Sluga (Group Leader) and Jordan Fitzgerald (Group Leader) for all the work they did in organizing and running this trip.  I also thank all our many Trumbullians who, amazingly, were up and in the House having breakfast at 5 a.m. and on the bus on the way to Vermont at 5:30 p.m.  The weather was a bit challenging but I hope all had fun and I’m so happy all returned safe and sound.

Thanks also go to Dami Adekeye, who, on Saturday suggested that we show the Yale Men’s Basketball Championship game in the dining hall, to Brandon Tong from making that happen and to Kory Evasick and Ellen Habelow in the dining hall for hosting us while we watched it.

Congratulations to the Men’s Basketball Team for winning the Ivy League Championship!!!!  It was a pretty exciting (and gratifying) game to watch.  I wish them the best in March Madness.

And another congratulations:    I congratulate Trumbulian Women’s Hockey players Anna Bargman and Kiersten Goode on their spectacular season to this point. Please join me in cheering them on as the Yale Women’s hockey team advances to the Frozen Four competition for the first time in Yale’s history.
