Welcome back Trumbullians! I sincerely hope that you’ve had a restful spring break. Given it’s Good Friday at the end of the week, this message is going to you a day earlier with best wishes for Easter Sunday.

March 25th-29th: The Trumbull College Art Gallery (6-8:30pm) has been open this week for an Exhibition of New Haven Black Artists featuring five talented artists. This event was organized by BlackBull in collaboration with Belonging at Yale. Congratulations to Jenelle Burgess, a sophomore and co-founder of BlackBull, and the entire HOC Office (Reese McLeod and Deborah Bellmore) for putting together a first of its kind event for our Trumbull community and Yale at large.

Tuesday, March 26th: To talk about the world of Development and Alumni Affairs, #ForBrightCollegeYears was present in the Trumbull Common Room (7-8pm) with Insomnia Cookies and some swag.

Wednesday, March 27th: The Exhibition of New Haven Black Artists, organized by BlackBull and Belonging at Yale, hosted a Reception in the Trumbull College Art Gallery and Buttery (6-8:30pm) for the talented artists and enthusiastic community and family members. Several Yale dignitaries were also in attendance. Congratulations again to Jenelle Burgess and the entire HOC Office (Reese McLeod and Deborah Bellmore) for organizing this amazing event, and much gratitude to our Dining Hall Staff for food and drinks.

Thursday, March 28th: In collaboration with the Yale Journalism Initiative and the Afro-American Cultural Center, we will host a Tea with Wesley Morris, a Pulitzer Prize winning author, a critic-at-large for The New York Times, and a Trumbull Alumnus, in the Trumbull Common Room (4-5pm).

Thursday, March 28th: In collaboration with the Chaplain’s Office, we will host our first Iftar (7-9pm) at the HOC House for fasting Trumbull students and a few Yale students at large.

Monday, April 1st: The Mellon Forum (only for selected seniors) will be hosted at the HoC House with the continued leadership from Adam Sexton, Lecturer in English in collaboration with Reese McLeod, Senior Administrative Assistant II.

Tuesday, April 2nd: In collaboration with the Chaplain’s Office, we will host a second Iftar (7-9pm) at the HOC House for fasting Trumbull students and a few Yale students at large.

Saturday, April 6th: In collaboration with the Chaplain’s Office, we will host a third, and final, Iftar (7-9pm) at the HOC House for fasting Trumbull students and a few Yale students at large.

Saturday, April 6th: Please consider Escape New Haven (103 Whitney Ave @ 2:30pm) in the afternoon. Students will be doing rooms called “The Game Show” and “Before Moonrise.” Spots are limited, so sign up quickly as it is first come first serve. Contact Grad Affiliate, Rose Bender with questions.

Saturday, April 6th: This semester, the YHHAP Fast is fundraising to support 3 New Haven organizations doing critical on-the-ground work to alleviate food and housing insecurity: Sunrise Cafe, Continuum of Care, and Haven’s Harvest. For those who are interested in supporting the fundraiser, please donate your meal swipe for a great cause or Venmo @YHHAP.

As you may recall from before spring break, congratulations to MHOOPS (Men’s Basketball) for winning their league! IM sports will continue after spring break. Trumbull is currently ranked 4th for the Tyng Cup (the overall IMs champions trophy), but if we show up in full force during this last month of IMs, we will earn our spot in the top 3. There are three sports you can join: volleyball, indoor soccer, and netball (basically like basketball without a backboard – this is still being confirmed, it may also be handball – we will update as soon as we know). Please click on the links to join the appropriate GroupMes, as that is the main way we communicate during the season! To celebrate the start of the season and encouraging signing up and asking questions about volleyball, indoor soccer, and netball, the intramural secretaries will be hosting another event with free Donuts and hot chocolate from Donut Crazy in the Buttery this Sunday from 7-9 pm. If you are even remotely interested in learning more about Intramurals, come down, have a donut and chat. Or if you are a frequent attendee of intramural events feel free to come down, have a donut, and tell people how awesome IMs are! Please reach out to either George Lan ‘24 or Lael Joseph ‘25 or Victoria DeMersseman ‘25 for details.

Yale OPAC has a full-time opportunity. This role is for students who are eager to develop, coordinate, and manage news, information, and stories about Yale, while also contributing to institutional communications strategy, reputation management, and crisis communications. Students will have the opportunity to influence both internal and external perceptions of Yale while highlighting incredible stories and achievements of our university. Students can apply for the position via this link

At this stage of spring semester, everything speeds up - so it’s important to pace yourselves, work hard but rest easy. Every Monday in April (April 1st – April 22nd @ 1 – 1:30pm) at the Good Life Center lounge in YSC is Mindfulness Monday, which is a new YC3 program that explores meditation skills that can help benefit the body and mind; while being effective for stress management solutions.

Moo-Rah!

Sincerely,
Head Hyder
