Spring break is almost here but, first, we’ll fit in one more snowstorm (it’s coming tomorrow – don’t put your hat and gloves away quite yet) along with just a few more exams and p-sets (don’t collapse just yet).
In the meantime, I enjoyed seeing seniors last Friday evening at the house (thank you Fellow Robert Sullivan for your instructions and great company) and then, again, last evening at the Mellon Forum in the house (thank you Fellow John Williams for leading us) has been great. So too did I enjoy seeing our sophomores at the new Soph-Brunch on Saturday (thank you Dean Marvin Chun.) I also thank our TCC for hosting our Oscars Night in the dining hall on Sunday evening.
Congratulations: Diana Saavedra, TC 2020, was selected as a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow last week and Carrie Mannino, TC 2020, whose poem, Generation Columbine, was published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette this week. Congratulations.
Trumbull IMs. We have a busy week this week as Trumbull continues to do wonderfully in IMs (we remain neck and neck with our neighbors from Saybrook across the street). Check the schedule outside the dining hall and emails from our IM-secretaries. Come out and play or cheer or both.
Congratulations to our fabulous, undefeated, inner tube water polo team, who won that water polo championship last week. Thanks to all who came out to cheer them on as well.
Next championship up is the Broomball championships tonight, Tuesday, at 9:30 p.m. We are playing against Davenport at Ingalls Rink! You may not know what Broomball is. Think: A small ball hit (into the opponent’s net, of course) by players in rubber soled shoes rather than skates each with a broom (rubber molded broom shaped bottom on a stick) on an ice hockey rink. IM sports in Trumbull has never lost a Broomball game. We rule Broomball. Come see us continue that tradition tonight!
In the spirit of winning Broomball (and other competitions), our Fellow and member of the Class of 1955, Steve Gurney, has passed along this advice via email: “Let Trumbullians never forget who they are: For centuries, the bull has been a symbol of strength, tenacity, virility, and power. Left alone, a bull will happily graze; but if it is bothered, it will charge! Similarly, the Taurus personality is thought to be calm and peaceful, but when their anger is aroused, their temper can be wicked. Taureans are often quite disturbed by sudden changes–they prefer their lives stable and secure. Taureans are thought to be persevering, strong individuals, who can also be quite bull-headed. They can be dogged and determined when they have a goal in mind.”

Passports: Do not forget your passport when leaving for spring break. (The college is open over break but you don’t want to add an extra trip back here after you leave for break!)
Cup/Bowl/Plate Return Plea: Our dining hall managers report that they are missing many, many cups, many bowls and some plates and silverware. It’s very expensive (and not the best for the environment) for our dining hall managers to continually have to purchase more cups and plates. Please look around your rooms, the student kitchen and common spaces for our dishes and bring them back to the dining hall. (Juniors, you may also bring items back to the House tonight during our study break which begins at 9:30 p.m. in the house. I’ll have a collection tub available and I’ll bring returned items back to the dining hall Wednesday morning.)
Lock up your bicycles. Unfortunately one Trumbull undergraduate and one Trumbull graduate affiliate have had their bicycles stolen this semester. Please remember to lock up your bikes when you bring them to Stone or Potty Court.

The Yale Handbell Ensemble is a student-run group what plays a set of 61 handbells spanning 5 octaves. They play traditional handbell music as well as pop music. There will be snacks. There will be music from movie soundtracks. Milo Brandt will be there; Katie Shy will be there. (They are this year’s co-presidents of the group.) (Trumbull rules handbells as well as broomball).
Thursday evening. YUAG tour 6 to 7 p.m.

Let us know you will be here (and when) by signing a list in the main office (or calling the office and asking that your name be added to that list. That way I can remind you of events we’ll have over break and also, it’s just nice to know who is around.
Know that a few dining halls are open over break, including Trumbull’s dining hall during the second week.
