TrumBulletin 4-4-25

April 4, 2025

Hello Trumbullians!

Spring is in the air, but so is a little chill. Regardless of the temperature, I am beginning to see the flowers yearning for some warmth, as do I with many of you around campus.

There are quite a few weekend festivities. Inauguration of President Maurie McInnis [GRD ’96] who is the XXIV president for Yale. There are several events around campus as well honoring Malcom X, had he been alive would have turned 100 years old this year. Also, several student organized conferences are also happening at the same time, e.g., the SAYI conference. Plus the New Haven’s Cherry Blossom Festival will be held in Wooster Square, which is a little bit of ways from campus, but certainly worth the hike if you would like a little alternative. Below are the continuing events at Trumbull, with some corrected dates. In addition, there are many notices for student-organized CPA exhibits that are found around our bulletin boards.

Trumbull Fellow and faculty advisor, Dr. Yusuf Ransome (founder of the Society, Connectedness, and Health Lab) is hosting an event on Sunday, April 6th from 4:00-7:00pm. He will highlight clips from a documentary film focusing on perspectives and experiences of social connectedness, and how it may impact our health.  The event will highlight the trailer and will also be a space for connection, creativity, and community. There will be other elements such as a slam poetry performance, interactive art installations, and a moderated panel discussion. There is room for five Trumbullians to participate.  If interested, contact Deborah Bellmore. It will be on a first come, first served basis.

The YHHAP Fast team asks for your support for this semester’s fundraiser. The YHHAP Fast is the largest student-run fundraiser on Yale’s campus. Once every semester, over 25% of Yale’s student body donates their Yale Dining meal swipes for the day of the Fast. This year, the Fast will be held on April 12th, and they are requesting your support to include information about the Fast in your upcoming college newsletters. The proceeds of the YHHAP Fast support organizations that address housing and food insecurity in New Haven. This semester, they will be supporting three New Haven organizations doing critical on-the-ground work to alleviate food and housing insecurity: Haven’s Harvest, Continuum of Care, and New Haven Inner City Enrichment Center (NICE Center)

Specifically for Class of 2025, please note that Kassandra Haro of the Yale Visitor Center has a special message:
It has been an honor to be your mascot these past 4 years. I am so excited to see you graduate in the Spring. As you may know, every year I hold “Commencement Photos with HD” in early May. I want to make it a priority to meet as many graduating students as I can before your big day, so this year I will be holding “Senior Portraits with Handsome Dan” in each residential college. These photos can be solo or in groups (like Frocos, suites, etc.) but only individuals in that college may sign up for photos in the college. For example, a senior in Morse cannot sign up for the photoshoot happening in Trumbull. Additionally, if you sign up for a group photo (in this example in Morse), all members of the group photo must be from Morse. Please, no signs or banners. We will have photographers on staff who are happy to use your camera/phone to take photos, and we will also be taking professional shots that will be edited and sent to you via email. These photos are free and open to seniors in Yale College. There will be another opportunity in May to attend Commencement Photos with Handsome Dan, if you (or your group) are unable to sign up for residential college photos. There is a cap on the number of people we can take during a photo session, so registration is required. Unfortunately, we cannot accept walk-ins. If you are a Froco and were unable to sign up for photos please email handsomedanxix@gmail.com. I am so excited to hang out with you!!

VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER: If taking a group photo, if other members of a group wish to take a solo photo they must register separately/individually. All members of the group must be from the same college. Only sign up for photos in your college.

Photo Days:
            Trumbull - Saturday, April 12, 11:00-12:00
Please note: Dates and times may change due to weather/illness/etc., but hopefully they will not! Rain dates will most likely be the 18th and 27th. You will receive updates via email.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is looking for hosts for Bulldog Days. Visiting admitted students need a place to sleep on Monday, April 21st and Tuesday, April 22nd. They will instruct the students to bring a sleeping bag and pillow, so all you need to provide is space on your couch or floor. You and your suitemates may be the reason a student chooses to attend Yale! Sign up now to host. Every member of your suite may sign up to host individually but be sure to coordinate with each other so you don’t sign up to host more students than your suite can handle. Yalies who sign up to host will receive a special swag item after Bulldog Days. If you have any questions about hosting please reach out to Karen Blake.

The Yale Peabody Museum invites student proposals for the Fall 2025 Student Exhibition. The Peabody Student Exhibition is a temporary exhibition that is curated, designed, and installed by Yale students. The upcoming iteration of the Student Exhibition will be on display in the designated Student Exhibition Gallery of the Peabody Museum from October 2025-March 2026. The Student Exhibition Gallery is a (~20’x30’) space adjacent to the Central Gallery of the Peabody. The room has a system for hanging 2D items on the walls, and a set of display cases of various sizes. They encourage students to think creatively about the use of this space, and, though not required, they welcome ideas about layout or design in their proposal. To be considered, please submit proposals to peabody.student.programs@yale.edu by April 25th. Proposals should be submitted using the attached proposal form and be no longer than 3 pages. If you have questions, please contact Natalie Mastick.

The IM Secretaries would like you to know that  there are three sports to participate in this spring: volleyball, indoor soccer, and kanjam. Click on the hyperlinks to join the associated GroupMes, where all communications about weekly schedules will be sent. As always, everyone is highly encouraged to come to a game regardless of background or experience.

I advise you to practice common sense approaches for personal safety in all circumstances. Move in small groups and use Safety Officers for walking across campus grounds. This part of the semester seems to be in warp speed, with many activities demanding our attention. So please keep a routine and allow yourself periodic rests.

Moo-Rah!

Sincerely,

Head Hyder
