Congratulations:  Trumbull has won the Gimbel Cup

With great pleasure I announce that Trumbull College (out of all 14 colleges) has won the Gimbel High Scholarship Prize this year. The standing of a Residential College for purposes of this prize is based on the grade-point average of students in the Class of 2019, 2020 and 2021.  The Spring term of the previous academic year (Spring 2018) and the Fall term (2019) of the current academic year are the semesters used in the calculations.  (That means the current term for all remaining in the college will count toward next year.  First years do matter!)  Congratulations to you all.

The cup (see picture with a few Trumbullian seniors) now sits in the Trumbull House.  We will display it at events throughout the end of this year, at graduation and then throughout next year.  With great good fortune we will then hold on to it for longer.  (I’ll host lots of study breaks to support this endeavor.)

The cup is named for Colonel Richard Gimbel of the Class of 1920 and has been awarded to a residential college each year since 1957.  We first won it in 1958-59 and last won it in 2007-08, I’m glad it’s back in the college.

If you’d like to have your picture taken with the cup, just let me know.  I’ve had several people comment, “Well, I didn’t contribute to that.”  But the fact is, all sophmores, juniors and seniors contributed to that average and I’m proud of the college as a whole.
