TrumBulletin for May 10, 2021
Classes are over and we’re already into reading week. We still have CoVID restrictions but we do have a bit more flexibility now. As you finish up work this week and prepare for, and then take, finals we want to support you.
Thus, we’ll be hosting a variety of study breaks and one trip to the Connecticut River for an afternoon cruise. I know you’ll be working hard but please remember to get some exercise, get adequate sleep and watch out for one another. Keep things quiet in the college as every night there will be someone in the college writing a paper that just must get done or studying for a final.
Here’s what we have planned for you for the end of the year:
Very early morning coffee and light snacks between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. every morning.
Every morning, coffee and some light snacks will be available for those few of you who are my early risers and studiers and for those others of you who have stayed up all night to finish this or that and just have a bit more to go. (For the record, I don’t recommend staying up all night! I just recognize that it does happen!)
The location each morning this week (that is Tuesday through Friday) will be the Trumbull Common Room on the side table against the wall. The location will either be the same next week during finals or in the House itself. (Watch for notices.)
For our remote students. We love you. We miss you. Watch your mail for notices of GrubHub study breaks for you.
Tonight! The Big Green Pizza Truck will be parked outside just around the corner on York Street. They will be there between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. for Trumbull students only.
Please go out and get some pizza tonight. The Truck will have a list of Trumbull students so you’ll just have to give your name. I’ve had pizza from them many times – it’s good.
Then, so you will have something to drink, help yourself to something to drink. The drinks will be located inside our gate near the archway. We want to make sure drinks are available to all so each person should take just one.
Thursday afternoon, May 13, A cruise on the Connecticut River
We have been cooped up for over a year. We can now (cautiously!!) venture out and that’s what we’re (cautiously) going to do on Thursday. Trumbull is sponsoring a boat trip on the Connecticut River which I’ll host along with Associate Head Polner.
We’ll leave from Trumbull on a bus (with appropriate distancing – bring your masks!) at 1:30 pm (be on board no later than 1:15 pm) and go to Eagle’s Landing State Park in Haddam, Connecticut. There we will board a boat with two naturalists. We’ll travel a bit up and down the river. It’s supposed to be sunny and nearing 70 degrees. We’ll be on the river from 3 to 5 pm. We hope to see nesting Bald Eagles and other wildlife. We’ll have snacks on the boat as well.
With CoVid restrictions we can only take 28 students and it will be first come first serve.
Email Deborah Bellmore (email@example.com) if you’d like to go and remember, you need to be on the bus by 1:15 pm for a 1:30 pm sharp departure time. (The bus will pick up from the main gate.) I hope that 28 of you will join in. (If you have binoculars, bring them. There will be some sanitized ones on the boat. If you like taking pictures be sure to bring your cameras and cellphones. Want to know what the Connecticut River is like? Just google away. We leave from and return to Haddam, Connecticut.
Here’s a picture to give you a sense of the location.
Wednesday, May 12th: There will be a Cheese Truck coming to Trumbull, again from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
And on Friday, May 14th: The Tasty Yolk will be back at Trumbull! From 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
And then, Monday, May 17th we have the Mr. Softie Truck coming. From 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
As you finish your work and wish to celebrate, please do! Yet please keep celebrations quiet as there will be others around you who are not done until the very last day of finals.
As weather permits, I’ll open the back yard of the House for quiet celebrations of being done. We’ll set out lanterns and tables there. I’ll reserve other spots in the college for quiet study and writing.
Finally, we’ll be setting up some slide shows in the dining room so you can see some of our pandemic year pictures on our big screen there. Enjoy them as you come into the dining hall but keep social distancing in mind. You may certainly sit at the tables the dining hall provides to eat and to watch them or stand in non-pod groups to watch.
Seniors: The slides will have numbers at the bottom. If there is a slide which you’d like a copy of, just write the number down and then write to me (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I’ll send it to you.
