Hello Trumbullians!
I hope last weekend was recuperative and the bike race last Friday night wasn’t too disruptive. Associate Head Anita Sharif-Hyder and I spent last weekend in West Lafayette with our son Arman Hyder, as it was Purdue’s Family Weekend. Although Syracuse (your Associate Head’s alma mater) crushed Purdue in football, it was a great weekend all around, with excellent weather in the midwest but also in the east coast. Apart from the wet Monday, the rest of the week has given us a feel for the season slowly changing. I sense that summer made a last hard push in early September to give way to an early fall feel by late September. Let’s hope it stays like this for a little while longer before fall really arrives.
The Trumbull Buttery opened this week and Trumbullians are making good use of it. This week was another great IM week for Trumbull. As part of Trumbull’s IM table tennis team, I can say that Trumbullians from all years are showing up to represent. Great team spirit, with convincing wins on Monday (v Hopper) and Wednesday (v Jonathan Edwards) evenings.
I realize you must be inundated by emails. But there were some important reminders that came midweek. For example, Wednesday’s email from University Registrar’s Office on “Voter Registration in Connecticut” https://vote.yale.edu. As Election Day (November 7) approaches, I encourage you to register to vote. Also, a Wednesday email from Provost Scott A. Strobel on “Guidelines for the Use of Generative AI Tools”. This applies to all of us, across all disciplines and ranks, so please be aware.
As you must also be sensing, activities are beginning to quickly fill up our calendars. For example, the deadlines for Tsai CITY innovation programming for curious students https://city.yale.edu/events is coming up soon. Also, there are many sporting events you can find at Yale College Sports https://yalebulldogs.com. For example, Yale’s Women’s Soccer team is playing Dartmouth on Saturday at 5pm. Similarly, there are many amazing events through Yale College Arts https://collegearts.yale.edu/events that you must check out.
In early October there is Education (Iseman Theater; October 5-7) featuring two Trumbull performers, Leo Egger (as Mr. Hathe) and Meridian Monthy (as Superintendent Hochstetter). In mid-October Trumbull’s own Sophie Dvorak is the Musical Director contributing to Disguise: A Night of Scenes (TBD; Oct 13-14) and Untitled Concert (TBD; Oct 13). Also in mid-October is Desert Island / Girls Who Golf (TBD; Oct 12-14) features Trumbull’s own Samantha Fisher as Playwright & Director and two Trumbull performers, Madeleine Loewen (as Ava) and Alex Shadman (as Mr. Reinhardt). By late October, there is 10:59 by Yale Artists Cabaret (TBD; Oct 27) with Trumbull’s own Katia George as the choreographer and many Trumbull performers: Sarah Feng, Jordi Bertrán Ramírez, Megan Ruoro, Maxwell Brown. By early November there is Hamlet (TBD; Nov 2-4) featuring many Trumbull performers, Phil Schneider (as Hamlet), Leo Egger (as Polonius), Meridian Monthy (as Horatio), Logan Ledman (as Marcellus). Way to represent Trumbullians! Let’s all show our appreciation by seeing these performances. Please write to me in advance if you would like to feature an event, across all disciplines and crafts, in which you are participating.
Below is the continuing list of events coming up. Since timing of specific events are subject to change, please be on the lookout for emails regarding each event and please note some are by reservation and/or invitation.

To quote a Trumbullian the past week, “The semester is getting intense, but all is well so far.” Let’s hope it stays that way, but just in case - you may check out YC3 College Care https://yalecollege.yale.edu/getting-help/yale-college-community-care should you need some support. Please let Dean Surjit Chandhoke and I know of any concerns you may have. Please drop by to meet me in-person at the Head’s Office most Wednesdays and Fridays, or alternatively the other days of the week I am at my lab located at 300 Cedar (just a 10-minute walk from Trumbull). We can meet at either place, but please check with Reese McLeod first.
Have a great weekend and a productive next week. Moo-Rah!
Sincerely,
Head Hyder
