Some comments about keeping our community clean. The spaces allocated for trash and recycling (at least in the basement area near the Trumbull kitchen and elevator) need to be kept clean and tidy. We have noticed that disposal of trash and recycling has been EXTREMELY careless in these areas, which in turn creates an invitation to unwanted guests. So please take extra precaution when you are throwing trash and/or recycling.

The Development Coordinators for Camp Kesem at Yale writes to inform you that Camp Kesem puts on a free, week-long summer camp for children who have a parent that has been affected by cancer. At camp, they provide a space not only for kids to have fun, but for campers to be kids again and connect with kids facing similar struggles. They believe in camp being fully accessible to all children regardless of socioeconomic background, which is why their student volunteers raise the necessary funds every year to send over 140 kids to camp completely free of charge. This year, they are planning on hosting a 5K on April 12th at 10 am on the Farmington Canal Trail to help fundraise for Camp Kesem. They are hoping to make this event as exciting as possible for participants by providing all of our runners with a FREE T-shirt and color powder, as well as encouraging them to run with friends. The cost for each participant is $30. The first 5 students who write to me about this Kesem 5K Run, we will sponsor them as runners for this cause. The deadline for this request is February 20th at 12pm. Past this Trumbull College deadline, you are able to register yourself to make donations at this Kesem at Yale classy page or just signup in this Google form so you can get the right T-shirt for the run.
Murtaza Kitabwalla is the Assistant Producer for an upcoming play at Yale titled Saniya’s Salon (2/27-2/29), which is a celebration of the vibrant South Asian community here in New Haven,  written by Aanika Eragam and directed by Edie Wolfe Lipsey and Aanika Eragam. Saniya’s Salon follows Ritu, a salon owner in suburban Georgia, and her daughter, Saniya. It is a story that resonates deeply within South Asian culture: the intimate conversations that happen in the waxing chair, the beauty standards they inherit, and the way they navigate their identities across generations. It is the only production at Yale this season featuring a majority South Asian cast and crew, and it has been a true labor of love for all of in the cast and staff.

This event will be at Johnathan Edwards Theatre on March 4th at 5pm. Pizza and beverages will be provided! Register here.
