Trumbulletin 9-23-19

September 23, 2019

I hope you have gotten the courses you wish, that all is going well and that you are enjoying the start of fall, the good weather, and your courses.

For those of you new to the Northeast, savor this weather, enjoy the changing of the leaves but also do plan for colder weather and be sure you have a good coat, boots, gloves and hat for the coming winter. (Ask a northeasterner for advice on what to get). Just when the first truly cold days will hit is a bit unpredictable but I urge you to be ready by mid-October.

Thanks to all who went on the sailing trip. If you want digital copies of pictures from the trip, just let me know via email and I’ll send them along.  It was a bit gray but the weather was warm, there was enough wind so that we truly sailed, and I hope all had a good time.

Tomorrow/Tuesday, September 23rd: 4:00 p.m. Trumbull Tea with Enzo Barracco, photographer.

Tomorrow join me in the House to welcome photographer Enzo Barracco for the first Trum-Tea of the season. He is both a fashion photographer and a photographer of nature. He recently published a spectacular book of photographs taken in Antarctica.

Arrive at 4:00 or just before, have tea, coffee and snacks and then we’ll move to the living room to hear about his work and for you to have a chance to ask questions.  A dinner will follow in the house for those who have signed up.  The house is located at 100 High Street (Rose Walk) or enter opposite entryway I in Stone Court).

Friday/September 27th:  Trum-Ball “Midnight in Paris”

Since 2014 we’ve had a Trumbull tradition of hosting a Trum-Ball in our courtyard.  Your Trumbull College Council plans and hosts it.  (I supply the dance floor). There will be food and music and dancing and lights in the courtyard.  It takes place on Friday from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Tickets are sold during dinner in the Trumbull Dining Hall from 9-23 until 9-26.  It is a Trumbull event but you may buy a ticket to bring a partner or friend.

Family Weekend is Coming Up

Many of you will have family visiting during the first weekend in October and many may not have visitors too.  Do join us in the Trumbull House for a reception that weekend whether or not your family is with you.  Also, we’ll go apple picking on that Saturday at a local farm.  We charter a bus to go there (boarding at 1:00 p.m. and leaving at 1:15 p.m. sharp then returning around 4:00 p.m.)  Sign up in the office by noon on Tuesday, October 1. Family members are welcome and, again, do sign up whether or not your family is with you.

Later that day, we’ll sponsor some baking in the student kitchen so you can make good use of the apples you pick.  If you have a special recipe for your particular apples, you may send the list of ingredients you need (debbie.rueb@yale.edu) by noon on Monday, September 30th and we’ll have those ingredients ready for your use (and others’ subsequent tastes!).

Thanks.

I thank Penelope Van Grinsven, our pottery studio fellow, and our studio aide, Jenny Coyne, for their work making Trumbull’s first two pottery studio events a success.  There will be more pottery events coming up.  Join in.

Congratulations!

Congratulations go to Trumbull first-year student Ellery Winkler who was
named “Rookie of the Week” earlier this month for her soccer playing and who then was featured in a YDN news story for being a “dominant and versatile force in the offense” for Yale women’s soccer contributing many goals and assists for the team.  We’re proud of you.
