Trumbull Notes

Trumbulletin 1-30-21

Welcome back to Trumbull to all.  And, a very special welcome back to our sophomores who not only had to leave abruptly last spring (along with everyone else) but also were not allowed to enroll in person in the fall.  We missed you!  We’re happy you are back.

CoVID Cautions

Trumbulletin 12-17-20

The end of the semester has arrived.  We made it through.  There is a vaccine now.  We may not all get it for awhile but many at Yale New Haven Hospital have already received it.  I thank all of you for your patience all fall.  We’ll need more in the spring but we can manage.

The semester is not over. Yet the end of our in-residence portion of this semester is upon us.

It is a bittersweet time.  It has been wonderful to welcome our new First-Year students into the college and to welcome back most of our upperclass students. And yet it’s clear that the need for our in-residence portion of the semester to end early was the right call. CoVID rates are rising quickly in the country, in Connecticut, in New Haven and in Yale College. Traveling home and back would have been unwise.

We’re almost to Thanksgiving. The election has been called. The weather is beautiful which is a real blessing given the pandemic. And, promising news about a vaccine that appears to be 90% effective was announced this morning. Academic work is getting done. We’re still doing O.K. here in Trumbull even with a few of us quarantined or isolated. (I do wish those students well and urge you to contact me anytime if you have a need or just feel like talking.)

Tomorrow is the election and, undoubtedly, most of us will be watching the news unfold
throughout the evening (and, perhaps, throughout the coming weeks and even months).

It’s an election with unprecedented turnout and associated with strong feelings.

From a Trumbull perspective, I am worried about the well-being of the college as for tomorrow evening and for the coming days as well as you all negotiate your feelings about the election and all the work to which you still must attend.

Today is Jonathan Trumbull’s Birthday.  To help celebrate we’ve ordered some special desserts that you will be able to pick up in the dining hall tonight.  Well, to be honest, it was Debbie Rueb, our Head’s office Senior Administrative Assistant who always remembers Jonathan’s Birthday and always makes sure we have special cake in honor of it.  (Thank you Debbie!!!)
